Cool, Cool, .. cold

My car was a little sluggish at starting this evening. so I filled up with gas put some heet in the tank.. (yes its that s time of year). and then when i got home , i parked in the garage for the first time since April ish.. So it is in my opinion its cold. I was cold. I know, I know I wasn't dressed as well as I could have been. lovely clear days n windy the last few. today was barely 40 when Tuesday was 65. Current temp is 31 but we have 10 miles an hour of wind, this is windy for us, so it really feels like 21. The leaves are nearly gone from the trees as well.

we have had 3 or 4 frosts so the growing season is definitely done. 130 days this year, i think we almost broke the record. Usually the frost free days we run 110 if we are lucky ( can we blame this on global warming) September has been wonderful for weather, but Sept is nearly done.

I have an open house next week , so this week will be lots of cleaning. its amazing how much more messy I can make my house when I actually spend more time in it.

Fall / Autumn

Fall / Autumn, is defined for me by the temp. And my feet - I got cold feet last night so i had to put some socks on. this morning I looked a the thermostat and it said 65 so i put a sweater on... but 65 in the house is a little cool for me.

this afternoon i made some scones, but i used oil and not butter then i put in cinnamon and ginger ( cause i couldn't find my nutmeg- have i used it all? ) and then i cut up an apple and put that in as well. then i used yogurt instead of milk.( cause the milk was ... thick and smelly). i am sure these are still scones but dam they got changed some. they are currently in the oven.

the greenhouse needs attention i had to turn the heat lamp on for the last few nights there's been good dew on the car every morning. no frosts yet. i have lots of good sized tomatoes this year they are still trying to turn yellow , hence the heat lamp. the cucumber and about done. the basil and celery are still in good shape. shall i dry it or just give it away. and i need to go do something with the last of the beans and peas. the broccoli is producing OK second and 3 cuts from the from each plant.

so its Official fall is here ( for my opinion).

I am going to turn the heat on.

the end of Fall

Sunday 3:30pm in the afternoon, we got snow that stayed longer than it does it Christchurch, this is the north side of my house, no i didn't get the leaves raked in time, the last couple of bags i got today, Monday.

today was windy the house across the street appeared, the leaves are all gone from the trees. today is September 29. how long does fall/ Autumn last ? well i started taking these photos in mid August.
My definition of fall is when there is snow on the ground well this stuff wont stay, 3 weeks maybe, but 95% of the leaves are gone. the calender says that fall only started last week, not the case in Fairbanks.
It was cold today, 20 when i went to work i think it made it to 40 mid afternoon. the way everyone dresses has changed polar necks , warm sweaters. I parked the car in the garage.

Here i will end the the fall series, don't know if you are interested in photos of barren trees , there is kinda ugly time of year now, till we get snow on the ground to stay.
Freeze up will not be far away. Freeze up is considered to occur when the day time high does not reach 32. This will occur between Oct 1 and Oct 15 guaranteed. in 14 years it has not failed me yet. But for now i am done talking about the weather. hopefully there will be more interesting things in life.

Just arround my street.

Balane hill road, just for a comparison from what 5 days ago. The weather has turned, no more sunny skies, cloudy and a thought of rain. My street looks great right now. full colours are probably today 13Th September. Some trees have their leaves departing already

the New Morris Thompson Visitors center, and the view across the river.We have this little pond. I am not sure what it will do come freeze up

Now i was thinking of doing another series of freeze up but it might be boring , its only about a week and i can take photos of the river from work

September 5

Got invited out for dinner last night. Just had to take the camera the colours are just great, there is quite a difference in 5 days as well
the trees in my yard a somehwat slugish at turning , but that is ok

Farmers Loop rd colours

I went fora drive up Farmers loop today going to a freinds place , it was a lovely day again. i even remebered to take my camera. so for your vewing pleasure of the fall colours.

the under growth colours are equally good, the fireweed is dieing off and turns a wonderfull red.

Fall/ autumn is not yet at it full colours we sahould have a week or 9 days to go. more next weekend.

The trees arround my house are alot slower at turning so there will go more quickly at the end of the week maybe.

But i still have 10 days of work at the second job and it s dark at 9 30. Taking photos during the week is tough.

Fall 8/24/08

Anther nice sunny day today , so time for another photo, there are now 2 lots of branches that are yellow its 70 during the day and 40 at night. its now dark at 11 30.

the yellow is kind a a nice yellow until you remember what fall will bring ( cold weather) and no my camera is probably not up to photographing northern lights. I may give it a try but no promises.

The Falling leaves

I have decided to do another series , just for people who don't realise just how fast the seasons go and change around here. fall is very fast, so this afternoon this is august 16 i wandered around and started the photos, Leaves start changing , just one at a time currently we are down to a small branch at a time. The first yellow leaf is usually spotted during the fair, ( the first week of august.) i will try to photo once a week for right now and more as necessary. Full colour fall/ autumn is usually about September 10 / 11.
